Psychological Assessments, IQ Testing,
Educational Testing, ADHD Evaluations, and Personality Testing
Psychological assessment refers to the
use of specially developed and researched tests that measure various mental
abilities and attributes, including intellectual functioning, academic
achievement, memory, attention, and personality traits. A formal psychological
evaluation is not always needed, but it can be a useful diagnostic aid depending
on the needs of the individual.
Types of psychological assessments I can provide include:
Intellectual Functioning and Cognitive Ability, Including IQ Testing
For children, academic achievement, ability, and intelligence testing, may be
used as a tool in school placement, in determining the presence of a learning
disability or a developmental delay, in identifying giftedness, or in tracking
intellectual development. An IQ test is helpful for adults to determine
vocational ability (e.g., in career counseling). An IQ test is also useful to
assess adult intellectual ability in the classroom.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Testing
A formal ADHD evaluation is useful in determining whether a child's attention
difficulties are truly caused by ADHD or whether other factors are causing the
problems in focus and memory. Many parents wonder if their child has ADHD
and a formal assessment can help them in determining the best approach to
dealing with their child's difficulties.
Personality Testing
A personality test is administered for a wide variety of reasons, including
diagnosing mental health problems (e.g., personality disorder, depressive
disorder), understanding negative patterns in relationships with others, finding
strengths which can help in building coping skills, and in finding interests and
traits that can help guide career planning.
